To refresh your memory, Gravatars are little user images from Gravatar.com that are displayed against your comments in the theme (if the theme is built to support Gravatars). A lot of WordPress themes are built without the support of Gravatars. So, here is some help for you to add Gravatars in your theme. Open up your comments.php file from the theme folder. Find this piece of code :-

Replace the above code with the following code :-

The above code will display the Gravatars. Now let us add some CSS to the style.css file for your theme.

When you check your theme again, you will see the Gravatar images against your comments.

I made a slight change to the CSS code to improve formatting.

Changing the margins from 5 pixels to 8 makes a huge difference. Please note I use DnD version 0.75 comment styling, but it’s a very easy tweak to transfer the necessary lines from the CSS stylesheet into the old 0.50 version. A very nice and simple tutorial from BlogOhBlog.com.

It’s not every day you get to see one of these chipsets. Annoyingly one of the metal clips that the chipset heatsink is held on by came detached from my motherboard. A bit of superglue and a lot of swearing later and I managed to get the heatsink back on without resorting to thermal glue. The markings on the chipset read:

You can see where the metal clip came off in the upper right of the picture, it’s the two tiny holes labelled ‘HS10′. When are manufacturers going to improve mounting methods of heatsinks? Never, they’d rather deal with RMAs than spend a few minutes and a couple of extra pennies doing it the right way.

I’m considering switching over to Habari from Wordpress. One thing holding me back is the complexity that is involved. Reading through the how-to and various tutorials is slow going and, to me at least, the learning curve seems pretty steep. But maybe I’m just too used to that wonderful 5-minute install on Wordpress?

Anybody else moved from Wordpress to Habari or another alternative blogging platform?

After the VMware autorun debacle (basically turning off autorun in Vista will mess with the ability to actually use your CD/DVD drive) and the constant resetting of folder views, I busted out the trusty N-lite-ed XP SP2 CD and installed it. One problem I will come across is the 4GB RAM limit of XP when I next upgrade. Do I buy a copy of XP x64 or simply live with it? Maybe I could go down the hackintosh route. Hell, I already have all my apps in OS X flavour already. Things I’m missing from Vista; nothing, absolutely nothing.

Still loving XP? Can’t stand going back to XP from Vista? What are your thoughts on the limited step forward that is Vista?

Something that’s lacking from my current workstation setup, pixel estate. Although my cheap and cheerful 17″ Xerox display does reproduce colours exceptionally well, the intregal glass screen is a nightmare to keep clean and it is starting to show it’s age. The dream display upgrade would of course be a pair of Apple Cinema Displays. Two 23 inch-ers would be great but I guess I could live with two 20s.
